After they approached the man, he ran down the 5600 block of Miriam Road, and the officers gave chase, authorities said. Police said the man reached into his waistband and fired several shots at the officers.

Both officers returned fire, and the man fled to the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Bridge Street, where he shot himself in the head, according to police. Authorities did not identify the man.

The officers were not injured, police said.

A police spokeswoman said the information is preliminary and subject to change pending further investigation. ••
